Thanks For Visiting On Mission Belize
In 1992 I was asked to carry a mission team to Belize, Central America to help one of our Southern Baptist missionaries . I lead a team and have been escorting teams ever since . The missionary, Don Pierson ( who now is with Tennessee Baptist Convention) asked me to travel with him to southern Belize on several occasions. He wanted to show me where mission teams were really needed. Because of the distance and the road condition no teams were willing to travel to this part of Belize. There was a camp there, but it had no electricity (at that time no one had electricity). There were five building in the camp, two of them had bunk beds. The camp needed a lot of work. The following years I escorted teams to this area and have been escorting teams ever since. During this time, we were able to repair the camp and make it livable. Over the next years to follow, they built new roads which cut driving time and they finally received electricity in the area.
Now, there are 10-15 teams that visit this area every year. There is a couple from Birmingham that has moved there and is running the camp for the Belizean Baptist Assoc. They were given land to build a new camp and that project is to be completed by spring of 2009.
Who is Mission Travel Inc. ?
For the first several years I worked with the William Carey Baptist Association, where I was a pastor. Many churches in the association traveled with me to Belize. When I changed churches, I was in a new association. That association was hesitant of running the money for the mission travels through them. At that time, I began a non-profit ministry and called it Mission Travel Inc. Mission Travel is a non-profit corporation in the state of Tennessee.
My purpose is to introduce as many people to this area of Belize as I can. If the church decides to return I would love to return with them or if they wanted to return on their own I would help them.
I am not a travel agency. I am a pastor who has a heart for the Belizean people. The rates I give you covers all local transportation , lodging, most meals, ministries, insurance , tee- shirt, and my travel cost.
